Love Steve Earle, love his music, I've seen him twice, would love to see him a hundred more times, would love to buy one of those cool new t-shirts, but they're THIRTY FUCKING DOLLARS. What the hell?

hey rocham you are absolutely right. i thought 20 bucks was hich in '02 when i bought a jerusalem tour shirt and i didn't bother to look at them when he came in '04.  30  bucks does seem kinda high especially when he does not have the expense of a full band.

For comparison purposes, check out some other bands/artists shirts....I've seen some that are $45 to $50 for a t shirt this past year, and the designs weren't half as intereresting or artistic, ...sorry, everything is going up in price and I don't think the size of the band makes a difference in what the tour shirts cost.  So I guess I don't think Steve's shirts are out of line compared to the others I have seen that are not anywhere as nice or have the great graphics (Steve's graphics were designed in part by Tony Fitzgerald who also does his album covers).

Well, I have only seen the one show this tour so far, in Minneapolis in March, but the shirts seemed to be selling like hotcakes from what I could see.  I scored a cool hoodie ($45) that they only had 2 left of, and ended up ordering a regular black small men's t from the store on this site because they were out of those by the time I got up to the counter.  I guess I don't feel bad about paying the price for Steve's shirts, since I don't buy many tour shirts anymore from everybody that I go to see.  Just the ones I really really am into.  My sister is into Bon Jovi so we saw his show this year (her treat) and the shirts were outrageous.  Least expensive one was like $45 and it was your regular shirt with photo of the band, nothing really special about it.  I didn't want one anyway but I thought THAT was too much moola for a shirt.  Didn't see a lot of people really buying them either.  The tickets were terrible so I think people were just monied out....just my observation or speculation...The rest of them were even more spendy.   Am going to the BamFest blues festival in Wisconsin this weekend so I will check out the wares there, if there are any shirt vendors for the artists who will be performing.   Happy trails.....

i saw him in March in Minneapolis and got one of the shirts, they were $25.00 here...i've worn it a lot since then, i have 3 other shirts from other years' tours..my shirt now has a small tear in one seam and few tiny holes in it...i don't know how they came to be....i will have to say the shirt probably isn't the highest quality in the world, but i had to have one, i'm crazy about that boy and also love goofy t-shirts..his are hard to find...i actually paid $35.00 for one from the "Feel Alright" Tour in 1996!!!  but, i've been so short of funds of late, am saving to see him on July 19 in Duluth, MN, that i haven't found another one...

Personally, I think the new shirts are hideous!!  Then again, I only wear black.  I have the old hammer and sickle skull shirt.  It's what I wore to the Iowa City show.

I'm not too sure of Steve's particular financial situation but most artists make more money from merchandise sales than anything else. So if you want to do something to "support" an artist you like, steal the music, sneak into the show, just make sure you buy a shirt!

i have 5 different shirts...my favorite one is the one that is barely still hanging together by threads, from the 1986 "feel alright" tour..i actually just got two more on Ebay, but i'm pretty broke now, still have some bills to pay for Saturday's show yet...

my daughter says, "mom, you don't have to wear a Steve Earle t-shirt everyday....."  i've been trying to spare them a bit, as when they are gone...sigh....you know the rest of that story...

30 dollars for a t-shirt with Steve's motives is perectly ok. But I refuse to wear the red star on my chest.

This is a good point.  When you don't buy the CDs or do stuff like sneak into shows and so on, you really cannot expect free shirts to boot.  Sometimes free or cheap is worth the price you paid.  Gotta remember, this is the musician's job and livelihood and the shirt thing is just one more way they generate a bit of revenue.  Got back from the BamFest Blues Festival in Wisconsin Sunday.  Super artists there (Robben Ford, Sonny Landreth, Wayne Baker Brooks, Eric Sardinas, Joel Pingitore, and more)...it was great.  Drove 7 hours to get there.  Was appalled at the low turnout for music of this quality...turns out people were bitching about the price of tix (a paltry $15 per day for a great lineup and hours of music and a great venue...and bought a Sonny Landreth shirt for $20).  The way I felt about this is that when we don't support the arts (and that includes music), these events go away.  Then we get what we deserve, which might be nothing...or it could be the commercial crap that the record companies push at us.  So I don't complain at the price of a t shirt for someone like Steve Earle.  He is great and I'll stand on anyone's coffee table in my flip flops and shout it out!!!  Yeah!!!

Red star?  Hell my shirt has the communist hammer and sickle.  I get some weird looks, but none be anyone big enough to mouth off about it.  My tattoos scare the hell out of people for some reason.  You should see their faces when they realize that I am the locksmith they just called.

hey doll (okay, hardcore is now officially doll...),

i don't mind the sickle and hammer stuff.....and, i say, let them look....i've wanted to get a tattoo myself, but my husband and young 'uns tell me it would be tacky....oh, well, i've been called tacky a lot....at this point in my life i am finding i really don't give a fuck what the majority of the "right" people think about me anyway....that's my husband's deal...after getting sober, i'm finding out i can just be me and if folks don't like it....oh, well....

Missintexas don't listen to anyone but your heart.  If you want a tattoo get one.  They will get over it.  I have most of both arms covered and my wife has even more tats than I do.  We make a fine pair of two.

 

P.S. I've never been called doll before, is that a good thing or an insult.
