    Re: T-shirts

hey doll....ask you wife about doll...and, oh, tell her it's from a harmless friend....

i reckon i won't end up with the tattoo, too much of my middle-class, down South, "good girl" upbringing left....so...you go ahead....

i think your wife is a lucky lady....you sound like a good guy to me......and, anyone who listens to me babble on about Steve Earle is great to me....

"i know you think you're queen of the underground......"

(been listening to Steve all afternoon.....)

    Re: T-shirts

Send me dead flowers by the US mail...............  Check out my myspace page and you can see my tattoos, except for my newest one it's not on there yet.  It's a king cobra that covers all of my right forearm.  My name on there is tattoos and scars.

The red star, hammer and sickle is equal to, or even worse than, the Nazi swastika. But I don't blame you, you probably can't understand it in the USA.

Hey, I haven't noticed any tattoos on Mr and Mrs Troubadour's wedding photo :-)

    Re: T-shirts

hey sweetie, no, of course, you are right....and those of us in the USA who hope we are aware of life outside the country do know about the hammer and sickle...i will throw this out, being also a hopefully educated believe in God, and say that Jesus espoused an early form of communism....of course, without the death camps, repression and general viciousness....

now, don't worry....you all are safe and sound with your names...i won't get them mixed up again....i have a sweet little friend, he's just 14, in NA who i have adopted (guess i have a little more on the stick than does he....) and i call him "little bubba....."

    take care all..

    me, j.

    Re: T-shirts

it pretty easy to make yr own t-shirt, either with computer transfer paper, or watered down acrylic paint (and stencils) ... I  would offer to do some designs for you all, but considering this is an official site  I would be concerned àbout the legality of it all... then again I am an unemployed designer,  maybe mr.earle wouldnt mind....

    missintexas:

hey doll (okay, hardcore is now officially doll...),

i don't mind the sickle and hammer stuff.....and, i say, let them look....i've wanted to get a tattoo myself, but my husband and young 'uns tell me it would be tacky....oh, well, i've been called tacky a lot....at this point in my life i am finding i really don't give a fuck what the majority of the "right" people think about me anyway....that's my husband's deal...after getting sober, i'm finding out i can just be me and if folks don't like it....oh, well....

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

i was born in the city, i was raised up right around here.......

missin' - You should definitely get a tatt if you want one! Maybe it's an idea to find a design that symbolises you, your family and your efforts at staying clean - the more a tattoo means the better imo. When I get my first paycheck from the new job I'm going to get the tattoo I've wanted since my son was born - a celtic shield (to symbolise eternal protection) with his name underneath.

    Re: T-shirts

tuco you are right about that.....i should get one....but, i've been living the way everyone else wants me to live for so long that i am not even sure of how many times i've said, "oh, i just don't think i should do....."  then i just spent 20 yrs medicating the empty places in my life and heart...so now, unmedicated finally, i am not really sure what to do.....sometimes getting out looks easier than dealing with life sober...i am pretty weak, i reckon....i like to say Steve has influenced my life so much, but i sure as hell don't have his strength of heart or wonderful spirit, i think...

    thanks for your kindness...

    Re: T-shirts & tatts

Hi Missin, I have been thinking about getting one too ever since I had a dream about it...am working on a design that will have a SE theme...everyone here thinks I've gone off the deep end but ya know at our age, what does it matter if we have one.   Life is good, even though it is not always easy.   I think I'm gonna go for the tattoo as soon as I have the cash.  Not a big one, just kinda small but something meaningful. Maybe by Christmas....TTYL

So, what you are saying - basically - is that I (and Steve Earle for that matter) are just as bad individuals as the Nazi skinheads terrorizing and killing blacks, gays, jews and mentally disabled people. I have scars on my body from standing up against racists (that is two stab wounds, I can PM pictures if you swing that way). I have been kicked in my ribs with steel-capped Doc Marten's simply for being in the same band as Africans. I have been to more anti-racist rallies than you can count on your two hands.

I have said this before, but apparently it didn't sink in the last time; I have nothing but contempt for the so-called socialism that prevailed in your country and in large parts of the eastern bloc. Had I lived under their rule, I had most likely been sent to jail or shot.

Now, could you please be so kind as to not call me a Nazi again. It is, in fact, starting to get annoying.

    Re: T-shirts

I think they're a rip too! I bought one at a show for $25 and that was as high as I'm willing to go. Too bad because I really like that long sleeve, but $35 plus shipping is kinda crazy. I tried seeing it through his eyes, and I just can't imagine Steve Earle paying $30 for a fucking t-shirt.  They are cool though, and the one I bought is quite comfortable.

I'll save my money for that Martin M-21 instead.

    Re: T-shirts

There is nothing worse than somebody who pre supposes what another is saying.  Instead of ranting in your self celebratory manner, why didn't you ask him to elaborate?  I think what he said is stupid.  I also think he is incredibly naieve if he thinks somebody cannot understand something just because they live in another country.

Why didn't I ask him to elaborate? Because we have been down this road before (I don't think you were around when it happened though), I thought that was pretty clear, especially considering this part "I have said this before, but apparently it didn't sink in the last time; I have nothing but contempt for the so-called socialism that prevailed in your country and in large parts of the eastern bloc".

I am sorry sir, if I came across as self celebratory - I was trying to make a point of the differences between me, as a socialist, and the nazi's. Believe it or not, I would much rather NOT have been stabbed or gotten my ribs broken.

Contrary to you, I don't think Viky is stupid. We have had heated arguments in the past, and I respect the fact that he doesn't share my beliefs when it comes to politics. That said, I will always react when somebody tries to paint me in the same colors as racists and nazi's.

    Re: T-shirts

What Viky said was prior to any posting you had made in this argument, I didn't understand why you took it as directed at you, as you had not been involved in the conversation before this point.  I understood from the context of what you said that you may have been speaking about this before but it's not relevant. I'm not saying that you wanted to get stabbed, to say as much is ridiculous.  What I am implying is that your rant was unjustified and self celebratory in the context of this argument.  Furthermore, I did not say Viky was stupid, I merely suggested that the comment he made was, there is a decided difference between the two.

    Correct.

    themechanic:
I didn't understand why you took it as directed at you, as you had not been involved in the conversation before this point.

Because to my knowledge, I am the only person on this board admitting to being a socialist/communist. Plus, we have had more or less the exact same conversation at previous times.

    themechanic:
I understood from the context of what you said that you may have been speaking about this before but it's not relevant.

It's not relevant to you, but it is to me.

    themechanic:
I'm not saying that you wanted to get stabbed, to say as much is ridiculous.

Yes it is, and I thank you for not wanting to see me stabbed.

    themechanic:
What I am implying is that your rant was unjustified and self celebratory in the context of this argument.

It may seem so to you. But again, Viky has made stabs (pun intended!) towards me before in the same fashion, and to be honest it gets a little tiresome to be thrown in the same boat as a bunch of Sieg Heiling assholes. I am still not really sure what "self celebratory" even means to be honest, but if that is what I am to you, then so be it.

    themechanic:
Furthermore, I did not say Viky was stupid, I merely suggested that the comment he made was, there is a decided difference between the two.

You are right, you did and there is. That was sloppy reading from my end, my apologies.
